La Vitoriana 2019 is a red wine produced by Raúl Pérez, one of Spain's most respected winemakers. The wine is made in the Bierzo DO, a region in northwest Spain known for its expressive and complex wines made from the Mencía grape variety.

Raúl Pérez is a self-taught winemaker who has gained a reputation for his innovative and unconventional approach to winemaking. He works with small plots of old vines, focusing on organic and biodynamic farming practices to produce wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Bierzo region.

La Vitoriana 2019 is made from 100% Mencía grapes, which are grown on clay-limestone soils at an altitude of 650 meters above sea level. The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo a rigorous selection process before being fermented with native yeasts in oak barrels. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new, before being bottled without fining or filtration.

On the nose, La Vitoriana 2019 offers aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and plum, with hints of vanilla and spice from the oak aging. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and well-structured, with flavors of dark fruit, tobacco, and a touch of minerality. The tannins are firm yet well-integrated, providing a long and complex finish.

Overall, La Vitoriana 2019 is a superb example of the quality and character that can be achieved with Mencía grapes in the Bierzo region. Raúl Pérez's dedication to organic and biodynamic farming practices and traditional winemaking techniques has resulted in a wine that is both expressive and elegant.
