‘El Viejo del Valle’ or ‘The Old Man of the Valley’ celebrates the 1950s Chilean street graffiti. This wine is an exciting find from the depths of Chile.

TERROIR:

In the shadow of El Descabezado volcano, lies a wiry old block of Pinot Noir rooted in rocky, glacial soils. The ‘El Infernil- lo’ (translates to the little devil) vineyard was planted in 2000, and the grapes from the naturally low-yielding vines were used as a blending component, often into Merlot to add vibrancy and elegance.

WINEMAKING:

Boutinot discovered the quality of the vineyard Pinot Noir back in 2012 when Eric Monnin, Burgundian winemaker and creative genius of Boutinot own production, became besotted by it. The quality was immediately obvious and with Eric’s guidance, we have been working with the fine fruit from this 20ha vineyard ever since. A little is aged in new Vosges demi-muids then judiciously blended with the unoaked majority. All components of this wine are vinified in a 200-year-old hacienda that has survived three of the strongest earthquakes in re- corded history.

Deliciously long, bright, textural Pinot from cold, stony vineyards deep in the Central Valley's old glacial riverbeds. Summer fruits of red currant, raspberry and wild strawberries on the nose follow through to a juicy palate. A touch of oak adds spice complexity. Try with finger-licking marinated ribs, pink lamb and roasted veggies, mushroom and chicken risotto.
